She explained four different technologies used in transcriptomics –microarrays, RNA sequencing, sRNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomics– through one of the examples her unit studies at VHIO: breast cancer.
As she mentioned, “in transcriptomic, we always compare different conditions”. The comparison allows the identification of genes that are differently expressed in distinct cells population or responses to different treatments. The VHIO group leader also explained some of the fields where transcriptomics can be applied.
At the end of her speech, she also talked about the evolution of the different sequencing technologies as well as the transcriptomic process workflow. Nonell pointed out that the quality and type of data you have will condition the processing of the samples, which will condition, in turn, the bioinformatics data analysis. She ended up with some best practice examples and considerations of transcriptomics processes.
