The SUSTAINABILITY KNOWLEDGE event, held on February 25, 2025, at ESCI-UPF, Barcelona, was organized as part of the DesHealth Erasmus Project by the UNESCO Chair in Life Cycle and Climate Change at ESCI-UPF. The event brought together leading experts to explore how sustainability, education, and innovation can address key challenges in the healthcare sector.
Through keynote speeches, discussions on climate impacts, circular economy strategies, and real-world case studies, participants gained valuable insights and exchanged best practices for integrating sustainability at different levels—from institutional policies to facility operations and sustainable medical equipment advancements.
Empowering the Next Generation of Sustainable Healthcare Leaders
The event also introduced a comprehensive educational platform designed to equip students and healthcare professionals with practical sustainability knowledge. This interdisciplinary programme includes four theoretical modules:

Systemic Design Methods | Supervised by Politecnico di Torino, focusing on holistic approaches to sustainability.
Sustainable Management | Supervised by ESCI-UPF, covering effective strategies for implementation.
Sustainable Product and Service Design | Supervised by Delft University of Technology, exploring innovative and eco-friendly solutions.
Additionally, the programme features a practical module where students collaborate on real-world sustainability challenges within healthcare facilities and systems.
